The Center for Disaster Resilient Communities develops and offers educational and training opportunities to students from a range of disciplinary backgrounds to prepare them to realize impact as the next generation disaster workforce.
Seminar series
The Center offers a spring-quarter, one‑credit interdisciplinary weekly seminar that introduces students and the public to research, policy and career pathways in disaster risk reduction, resilience and population health.
Study abroad
Center faculty created a month-long, nine‑credit summer study abroad program in Rome and Sicily to immerse students in interdisciplinary learning on disaster resilience, environmental public health and community sustainability through field-based research and community engagement in one of Europe’s most hazard‑prone regions.

UW disaster courses
Disaster-focused courses are offered by nine of the University of Washington’s schools and colleges.
IDEAAL fellowships
The Center has launched a hands-on training in environmental and public health disaster research methods and skills for up to 25 advanced graduate students and early career hazards and disaster researchers a year.
Humanitarian response certificate
The UW’s Population Health Initiative administers a Graduate Certificate in International Humanitarian Response.
